Case study · Design and build construction

The bank would not lend to them.

The owner wanted to hand the business to the next generation but could not raise the capital to grow it, because nobody could see clearly what was happening inside it.

The situation

A legacy business with no clear line of sight.

The owner had reached the point where building a legacy for the next generation was the whole point of the business. But years of running without strong systems, documented core processes or clear structure had left the company stuck. Financial reporting was unclear, which made it impossible to make confident strategic bets, and just as impossible for a lender to see the business well enough to fund its growth.

What we did

We put an experienced operator in the seat to align the leadership team to the owner’s vision, then made the business legible.

  • Brought a real operating cadence to leadership meetings, with clear agendas, owned action items and a small set of company goals everyone was steering toward.
  • Built a company scorecard and refined it over two quarters, so every stakeholder could see performance and be held accountable to it.
  • Documented the core processes and fixed the financial reporting, so the numbers finally told a clear and fundable story.

The result

Out of debt, and the bank lent.

With real transparency and accountability in place, long-standing issues that had plagued the business for years surfaced quickly and got resolved. The company got out of debt, and the owner was finally able to raise the debt capital to grow the business he wanted to pass on.
